If this is the raft porn thread, I suppose mine's a bit flat-chested.

This was our first trip out. I don't have any fancy gear. We just floated 12 miles and were out for right at 5 hours. I'm 250 pounds, and my daughter's only 40 pounds, so I stuffed a tote from the closet full of camping gear to even the weight out a bit.

Obviously, we're just barely starting, and I've got a lot to learn (and buy). I appreciate this thread because we've got over 100 miles of our local river planned out to float this year and we'll need to pack for 2-3 days for a couple of our trips. You guys have some great suggestions on rigging gear and how to position it smartly. I've been reading through pages and pages of this thread.

I'm not at all happy with the way that tote fits in the front of my raft. Does anyone know of a tote, or a cooler, or something I can put my camping gear in that is shaped sort of like the front of that raft? This Mariner 4 is tiny, and my daughter likes to wiggle, so maximizing space and getting things to pack as efficiently as possible is important for us. I need something that fits better, but Google is failing me at the moment.

Thanks for the ideas!

With your daughter in the photo, I feel a little strange saying that's the best raft porn I've seen in a long time. Beers down to you for floating with suck a Huck Fin style raft.

be warned. your bank account and vacation days will suffer greatly from your new found "hobby".... looks as though my precautionary advice may be a bit late as there will most likely be no turning back for you now! have fun and be safe out there!!

Took my new cat out a couple of weeks ago for it's maiden voyage, it was 18 degrees at launch. Aire Jag and a NRS frame. Floated the Rapidan and Rappahannock Rivers, in Virginia, 16 miles and did it a little less than 5 hours. Had a blast!

The only semi-waterproof case that is shaped somewhat like the bow of your craft is a plastic trailer tongue box. They are tapered on both sides, but only semi waterproof. I'd probably be looking for a box you can sit on, or something she can sit on towards the middle. You could build a simple wooden row frame for your boat, then you could mount oar locks to that and you could seat yourself more towards the middle of the boat.
Have fun!

here is the frame i am working on this winter:

using 1 1/4" emt conduit. grinding the galvanized off to weld. beer and milk to avoid sickness

trying to stay true to the statement, go big or go home.... this thing barely fits on my 14' nrs bucket boat
