Spider- have you used the forged NRS towers yet? With just one ubolt they spin for a while until they take a set. Mine took a few trips to settle down.

I have only used them once on the fishing boat but they seem to grip well so far. Ran out of whitewater to really test them in. A bit of sand paper on the mating surfaces might help. They seem to grab the raw aluminum well.

always carry a wrench and a spare u bolt set. Nice thing about the new NRS towers is you can tie the tower off as well to prevent loss during inevitable u bolt failure.

Yup- I use my oar leashes for double duty in retaining my towers.

Have you/anyone actually had a u-bolt break? I posted that question last year but no one responded in the affirmative.

I have not- but I can tell you, I've got a hell of a lot of.pressure on those oar tower u bolts to keep them from spinning. I expect to break one at some point.

I have , but it was during tightening and adjusting. Have had the old ones slip around a bit when upside down.
