I've R2'd the MiniMax a lot and it is really fun for easy runs. It is hole bait and a sporty ride as you start getting into hard class IV in my opinion. My Super Puma is great R2 and I can just imagine running it R4. I can't imagine running either boat you are looking at R4 down anything with challenge or consequences. The suggestion to look at real 12' boat designs is a good one and I like that Hyside model. You might save a couple pounds with a SOTAR but it will be a much wider roll.

Thanks for the replies guys are a wealth of info.

I'd guess that the boat will be R3 and R4 frequently and occasionally R2 or set as an oar setup.

I've put some thought into stepping up to a 12 or 13. There is a fair priced nice older NRS 12' complete with frame, oars, paddles, lot's of gear in Sacramento....wish he was closer. Someone should buy it.

My brother in law says to get a 13' minimum...otherwise I'll end up buying more boats.......I could always just hire the packer to get the boat down Chukar i suppose.

That Puma is a sexy little boat. People tend to hang on to them.

Buy small now and a 2nd bigger boat later. Buy what you will use the most. Due to family size I bought large. I would be so happy to have a small boat to go along with my big boat. I think that would be way better than one mid sized.
