With a 1/2" wrench it's easy. You can row with the oar sitting in the lock until you get a spot to pull over. One boat swaped out the lock and spare oar as a fix. I always have a 1/2" on my pfd for frame issues anyway. I have yet to pop one.
the thing that makes me nervous is the screwdriver slit for locking the nut. its just that slots in a screwdriver heads almost will certainly strip if you use them enough.
I told dan he should drill a through hole in the divot in the collar. then you could remove the oar from the collar and use a allen wrench to tighten instead of relying on a screw.
By the way now I know why he could only send me one set of the new collars --- he was busy making the same thing for you. I like the newer design, wish the collar size was a bit taller so the stainless t-bolt clamps could still be used.
