Oar locks

What's your favorite?
I have a set of cobra standard brass ones.
Picking up a 10.5 foot boat and frame and need some there.
Are the threaded the way to go with down river towers? What about springs underneath the standards to eliminate play?
Are there others I should take a look at?

I have threaded cobras on my gear boat and they are nice, very strong but expensive and heavy. On my cats I use nrs bronze alloy. Five seasons of big water and I haven't had to tighten them in a vice yet.

Non-cobra bronze locks are very soft and loosen easily. Aluminum are too stiff and will crab/break oars. I use a hitch pin and cotter to secure. I make plastic washers to eliminate play. The plastic keeps the noise down also.

You will want threaded locks for DRE towers. A standard size key ring and lynch pins won't allow 360* rotation.

As long as your pin is short enough it will work great inside of a pipe tower. Keyrings and Lynch pins have always scared me and I never use them. You will be very happy with more cobras until you flip and smash one because I think they're pretty pricey. If you never flip you don't need to worry...
