I started wearing Chacos when they were Geckos. Still love them.

The ones I am looking at are Leadville Pacers. They are $85, though I agree that is way more than they should cost. Chinese Chacos cost more than that and US made chacos are $130. Just got a pair of Vere sandals that are pretty well priced, but they only make thong type sandals.

The sandals are made thinner to give you more of a bare foot feel. I am looking at another pair from Shamma that are even thinner, though I would probably only use off river.

If I was going to wear closed toe I would probably just wear my NRS Freestyle wet shoes.

The Luna Sandals are great for trail running, but not great in the river. They are not secure enough to provide the traction and performance you want from a river shoe.

That thong style toe is worse than just leaving the toes open- it doesn't control the front of the sole very well and you can trip more easily on uneven terrain- hence the advent of the original Teva for river use

For that price, and how thin the sole is and how flat it is (no arch support) I think I'll stick with chaco. if they were $30 - $40 cheaper, they'd be worth looking in to (in my opinion)
