That's a good idea, I do similar with the freezer bags, but I don't cook in them. Freezer bags on their own leach plastic into the food when heated to cooking temps. The steamer bags do not leach as much. For Breakfast burritos we wrap in tin foil and heat them in the DO on the stovetop flipping them often. It is one of our favorite rigging day meals.
The bags I use are BPA free and on the box they say it is okay to microwave as long as not food is not hot to melt plastic.
Since I'm steaming and food or bag is not touching the boiling water I have never worried that much (maybe I should). I also do my burros in foil and no need to turn or watch that close. But I have a second insert that goes on top to steam the green chili in a bag for the burros.
My favorites for launch day breakfasts are Burritos, Biscuits with sausage gravy and drum roll please.
Lox/toasted bagel/red onion/cream cheese/capers with a slice of tomato.
