On ALL multi day trips..........a person should carry a roll of toilet paper and a pound of coffee in their personal gear.

Wow, i was just about to tell you that it is a terrible idea, but i think you have an answer, better the buzzard's then keel dragging!!!
For light weight , and small trips, i use my jet boil, compact, fast, and the french press takes up no additional space, really see no reason to EVER use instant. I can even brew on top my dry box if in a huge hurry, or fast hot beverage for a swimmer.

Shit, son, you say that like they're mutually exclusive. A fat bowl, nice cup of hot coffee, a little groover time, and you're set for the morning.

I use ONLY instant coffee anymore boating. It is just so easy and I have gotten lazy and tired. Although since converting, my longest trip has been 7 or 8 days, not an entire grand trip. By the end of my last Grand trip, I was hating my Aeropress.

I post in support of Laura.

I drink coffee for the caffeine, and instant gives it to me easily, quickly, and in calibratible amounts.

So in the true spirit of The Buzz, and in good fun, I denounce all you elitist coffee snobs.

My wife and I took a handful of those Starbuck's instant things on a Grand trip as backup. We only used them a couple times when we needed a pick me up in the boat. Easy to make on the move.

I woke up early one morning on that trip and the kitchen crew was just getting going. One of the crew comes up to me with a look of absolute panic on his face, "Hey, we got a real problem." I thought, oh shit... we lost a boat or a person or someone's injured. Turns out there was no coffee in the day box!

Have fun!

If you're good with a sewing machine make your own coffee bags out of cheese cloth. Create a sleeve, add you favorite fresh ground coffee measured to the pot you're using and sew it shut. If you can't sew, use panty hose and tie knots with string. Been working since before Starbucks.
