I recently lost a couple of paddles and when I got a call from an outfitter that they were found, I gladly asked what flavor of beer. I was happy not to have lost my gear forever, and beer is almost always a great way to say thanks. Two 6ers seemed like a good amounot and I picked up the gear and delivered the frosty beverages. Hopefully they were psyched, because I was thankful for the call.

I was told by a Sherri Griffith guide that they found my dry bag with Northface tent, sleeping bag, etc. multiple things in the bag had my name and number. I called long before the guide told me. They said that they hadn't seen it. If I ever find anything of yours Jose. Confided it mine!

And then there was the time my son and I found an ammo can by the side of the road coming out of Westwater. We discovered that it contained -- among other things -- a 9 mm. pistol. The whole package wound up in the custody of BLM LE.

Since the owner's ID was in there, it wasn't hard to contact him. But the LE ranger who came out from Moab was very interested in verifying his legitimate ownership before allowing him to take it back when he returned to the station to retrieve it. By the time they finished with him, I suspect that compensatory beer was the last thing on his mind.
