Farmer John wetsuit thickness

Just looking for opinions on recommended thickness for a farmer John wetsuit. I know 3 mm will be less restrictive for mobility and cheaper to buy compared thicker 5-7 mm versions but I'm wondering if 3 mm is thick enough to get the job done if I went for a swim (due to a flip or being washed off the boat) as far as warmth? Water temps I might encounter are anywhere from 36-65 f with late 30s being very rare and more typically in the early 40s to late 50s for the most part. I will be wearing it with a dry top, & pfd as well.

I am not a fan of wet suits for boating. Bulky heavy, do not breath, take forever to dry .....

You have a dry top, add a good fleece or wool under and you should have adequate upper body warmth.

Lower body get a good splash pant , and fleece pants ..or thick wool should have adequate lower body warmth.

The cost a splash pants and fleece pants should be comparable to a wet suit.

Paddle on !
