Dry Pants with socks?

I have a late October Lodore trip coming up and I am trying to decide if I should rent a drysuit or buy a pair of Kokatat Tempus dry pants with built in socks to mate with the dry top that I already have. I have read a lot of conflicting information about the dangers of dry pants with socks but don't know how real that is. Opinions on these? Do I need a drysuit for Lodore in October or will a pant/top combo do the trick?

I'd suggest that if you are in a raft that a good pant/top combo will be sufficient. Have it large enough so that you can wear good fleece layer(s) underneath, if the weather is cold.

And, if there is going to be cold weather, you might want to look into muck boots that you can wear with wool socks.

Watch the weather before you come out. I would say no to dry gear, wool, fleece and rain gear work but I live at 8500 ft. Watch for Moose in the Island Park area. We had one in camp once in late Oct. Enjoy!

In my opinion, if there is a way you can swing buying a good drysuit, you won't regret it. My GMER is probably the biggest deciding factor in my comfort level on the water, year round. You can get wet if you get hot, but its tough to warm back up if you get cold....absolutely worth the investment.
