Did this with my 17 year old daughter on a Grand trip. Two small cat frames on 18' tubes. Worked great once we realized 1) rapids are too loud for discussions 2) she could not see me (she was up front).
I just matched her stroke for stroke. She made all decisions, I was just added power. Several times I found myself rowing as hard as possible to somewhere I did not want to go. But it worked out great and was wonderful in the wind and when we truly needed power, nothing quite like a "four stroke"!
