Color is rubbing off of my raft.

I have a late 90s NRS raft that I left out in the sun for about three weeks at my buddies house. I just picked it up and the blue color rubs right off onto my hand. How the heck do I fix this thing?

That's a paddlin'.

Clean it good with inflatable boat cleaner, rinse well, and 303 liberally.

Even so, three weeks shouldn't have caused that. Was the hypalon in really bad shape before?

Careful about getting to crazy with the inflatable boat cleaner. Try it in one small spot first and see what it does. It has solvents in it that could further break down the material if it is on its way out, which it sounds like it may be. The rubber should not come off on your hand from rubbing it. It may or may not be time to enjoy the time you have left with the old girl. There really isnt a fix for the rubber falling apart if that is what is going on. Anything you stick to it is just being stuck to rubber that is falling off.

Stage 1: She still holds air like a champ. Sure a few patches here and there are needed but this isn't the end.

If it has just started you have some time left with her. I was just saying aggressive use of cleaners with harsh solvents in them will expedite the breakdown of the rubber. Toluene cleaning before glue and the solvents in the glues can break it down further as well. If it is bad, you can do a great patch job and then peel off the patch with all the rubber stuck to it exposing the scrim. Be gentle on her and you should get some more trips in. As long as the rubber on the inside isn't breaking down as well it will hold air fine.

Stage 2: Damn it! I just got this boat set up how I like it. I don't have cash for a new one.
