Another oar question

I decided to upgrade from my Carlisles to a set of cataract oars. They have a rope wrap on them, but I have been rowing with pins. IS it possible to mount the clips over the wrap or should I remove it. My concern with doing so would be any epoxy that might have been used to install the wrap. How easy is it to remove a factory rope wrap?

If you call Cataract they will let know how to set them up how you want. I've seen pins and clips on rope wrap oars even on square tops sawyer. If the wrap loosens slowly you can tighten hose clamps as needed. I'd wait to pull the wrap until you put some miles on them.

Rope wraps are the best way to row. IMO. Why not try some open locks and actually get to use the rope wraps.

I have to go with Carvedog on this one. Rope wraps in open locks is like driving a stick shift. Once mastered you always have more fun and control than when driving an automatic. Not the answer you were looking for, I know.

Open locks and convertible oar rights gives you both worlds.
