Add a buoy-Anyone ever used in big water?

It's time to buy a new PFD and I'm going through the mental exercise. I prefer the fit of the lower float 17 # PFD's. I saw that Stohlquist makes an accessory called the add a buoy which essentially is a inflatable bladder you place in your front pocket of your PFD and gives you an additional 5# of flotation. Has anyone ever used one of these in big water? How does it compare to a High float PFD?
