For a solo though you could probably just leave your big stove setup all the time.
We bring a small stove in addition to the primary as well. Easier to heat up a cheap soup or there for a unexpected swim/emergency.
Would advice against going to one of the small iso-butane stoves as they start having problems around freezing. There are solutions but its best just to stick to propane.
General rules for cold weather, nuance of chemistry doesn't seem needed here.
