We wanted to take two days from the Salmon to Heller bar, since we don't have a motor and the last camp in the guide is shown 12 miles before Heller.
The USFS Snake River guide shows several more than that BLM guide.
We usually stay just one night on the Snake and target Lower Cottonwood to break .Snake Lake in half.
That camp appears very overgrown from the water, but the last few years we've found plenty of tent spaces along the shore
and set up the kitchen and shade fly at the lower end where there is a very deep sturgeon hole to dive into.
I've yet to reach bottom with extreme breath holding attempts.
