San Juan bug report

Anyone been on SJ recently and have details on mosquitos? Shuttle driver said they are really bad this year, but not sure if he was talking more put in/take out or all throughout canyon. Any guidance would be appreciated - we put on in 7 days and while we always plan for some bugs, had not planned for getting swarmed.

We just did a few days from Sand Island to Mexi Hat with Flows around 7k. We didn't have any problems with bugs other than the occasional party bugs hanging out around your headlamp at night. I will say that we avoided the camps that were near tributary creeks so we may have just gotten lucky. Great chocolate water rafting!

We were on San Juan from 6/5-6/11. Mosquitos only the last campsite. That said- it rained 4 nights so may have gotten worse bug-wise.

Got off yesterday and had a few mosquitos at camp, but not that bad. Quite a few swarms of gnats? that we paddled through on the river but we only swallowed a few. The desert is green though, really cool to see right now.

Also got off yesterday (Saturday, 27th). No problems really anywhere. Camped at Oljeto on
last night, looked suspicious with mud and skanky pools, but no problems. Worst mosquitos were at Recapture Lodge in the evening!
