I don't see why a group wouldn't choose to run on down to Shorts Bar anyhow. Why not float that ~20mile stretch (from the usual takeout to Riggins) instead of driving it ? Plus, I think the shuttle is usually a little cheaper.
When I did it on low flows (about 4Kcfs) in Sept 2014, Ruby seemed pretty inconsequential, Class II maybe. Lake Creek seemed almost identical to Big Mallard (?), where you wanted to pass through a narrow slot between the left bank and a big rock, but that was about it.
We camped twice, and there are some decent camps. Our TL was a long-time Salmon veteran, so he knew how to avoid private land and of course we made a point of being on the side of the river opposite the road. Yes, cars drive by, but that traffic pretty much disappears after dark.
