Just a few quick details I thought were interesting about our most recent Ruby trip.
We launched Friday from Loma with 25,000 other people, but once on the river, really didn't feel too crowded. Camped at Cottonwood Friday night at 6 miles, took us about an hour to get there at just under 13k. We had a smaller group meeting us at camp later that afternoon, but decided to try and make contact with them from camp. Had surprisingly good reception at camp with ATT. Though the mosquitoes seemed to gain strength with any bug spray we would use. Looked like half our group had chicken pox.
Camped at BR6 on Saturday at 16 miles (10 from Cottonwood) took about 2 hours at about 10.5k. Mosquitoes were almost nonexistent. Saturday night hit with some rain and super high winds, but nothing to ruin the trip at all.
We had one injury Saturday night. One of the guys in our group headed down to the river to #1 well after dark, took one step too many, and slipped into the water. Hurt his ankle. He was ultimately OK, but reinforces that the most dangerous section of river is the shoreline.
Have fun and be safe!
