Ruby: Fire Ban status

Anyone happen to know if the fire ban for Ruby Horsethief is still in place or better yet - if there is any plan to lift it?

No updates on GJ BLM site so I would assume the July ban is still in effect:

Fire Restrictions

I would wager the ban stays in effect until at least Labor Day if not later. The fire situation across the west, especially the PNW, is putting a lot of pressure on limited resources.

No fires. Read the Dog Island thread. We were lucky the whole damn canyon didn't light up.

I called the Westwater ranger two weeks ago, and she said the ban had just been lifted through Westwater and down to Moab. Didn't ask about Ruby specifically
Seems odd, especially considering the Dog Island fire, but that's what the Ranger said

Its worth a call in to the ranger to find out

Either way, be careful with fire down there

The Ruby Horsethief section does still have a fire ban in place. However, the fire ban was lifted for Westwater Canyon and the downstream sections.

There is still a fire ban on Ruby Horsethief! Nothing with an open flame including charcoal and fireworks. You are still welcome to use a stove for cooking as long as you can turn it on and off. There is no sign that the ban will be lifted soon. Please follow the prevention order to avoid another Dog Island situation. A copy of the order can be found here: Upper Colorado River Fire Information and Restrictions

Thank you all for your understanding and for keeping our river safe.

After it was explained to me by the BLM, the ban on Ruby vs Westwater makes sense. Ruby canyon is more open with large or long benches that go on for quite some time. With all of the cheat grass in that area it is easy to have a fire get out of control and go for a long way.
Westwater campsites tend to be more isolated without the cheat grass. There are some exceptions, but overall, camps are in willows, beaches or have other minimal risk of a wild fire.
Thanks to BLM for making the hard call and doing the right thing.
