We are back. It was low, slow, and rocky. I was surprised how much rockier it was than at 1700-1800 cfs. We got momentarily stuck several times and saw other groups that were really stuck. Many rapids were more difficult because you couldn't get a good stroke with the oars due to rocks. My oars really took a beating on rocks both above and below water.
The waves were smaller. There was more wind than prior trips, so it was slow making the mileage we hoped for each day.
We opted for the fish ladder at Rainie Falls. That was a real drag - literally. My son and I went first in my 16' raft. We got stuck about 5 times. For our other boats we had people stationed along the way to help them get unstuck. I think the middle chute is more fun, but we weren't sure if we could get to it with the lower water.
Blossom Bar was much tougher than prior runs. The slot is only about 15' wide, so it was really hard to make the cut in behind the Horn.
I watched a gal in a 14' boat do a very clean run, then all three of our 16' boats played bumper pool all the way down. We all hit the Picket Fence, but luckily we all swept to the right and down the chute backwards. The boat right after ours hit Picket Fence and flipped. Not good.
So, we were somewhat disappointed in the trip. It was still fun, but not as fun as prior trips. I think it is more fun with a little more water.
