Rio Chama beta
Just got off a float of the Chama. Flow level was the standard 600cfs weekend release. If you are contemplating a run from El Vado, I would suggest you seriously consider a Chavez takeout. Especially if you have a heavy boat with passengers.
Very high water earlier in the year has flushed a lot of side canyon debris down. The ramp at Big Eddy is down to a single lane, the other 6 or 7 are covered with 2' thick mounds of silt. The BLM ranger has kept the one lane open with a shovel, moving a bit at a time by hand.
I may have an incomplete memory, but I do not recall nearly so many mid-channel groundings from rocks in the past. The upper section seemed about like normal - the odd push and drag session, but my boat and oars took a beating on the lower section.
