One of the big reasons that the NPS bans dogs in the backcountry is to protect wildlife. Try to remember that before you send your dog into a waterfowl nesting area because those pesky birds woke you up.
Pretty sure that's not what we're saying. I would never 'send my dog into a waterfowl nesting area because those pesky birds woke' us up. I'm on my dog's ass whenever he even looks at wildlife funny. Just bemoaning not being able to take dogs and the fact that geese can be terribly annoying. I was also commenting on the fact that some of these things that are 'reasons' why dogs shouldn't be allowed are pretty silly.
'Dog crap everywhere' - more goose crap than you can shake a stick at. 'Dogs barking on the river' - When I did the Smith and dogs were allowed, I honestly don't remember dog barking being a problem. 'Geese being spooked by floaters' - When we did the Smith this spring, geese rarely honked at us, but they were continually in fights with each other, late at night, early in the morning, all day...
Sure, there are some pretty annoying dogs that don't behave well. Same can be said about people. My dog is always happy to see me and would lay his life down for me if needed - can't say that about many people...
