Northeast rafting info?

Hey all,

Moving back to VT this fall and I am wondering what the rafting is like. I know there is a lot to kayak/canoe etc but wasn't sure how much of it is raftable.

We have a Mini max so most things should be fair game.

Any info would be great!

Thanks

R-2ing a Mini Max can be a lot of fun anywhere. Back in the day, when I lived in Maine, I had a friend who had a Shredder and he was R-2ing class 5 in it. You don't see many oar rigs in the Northeast.

The West River has a scheduled release this weekend Sept. 24 & 25.!!!!!!

Other rivers will be runnable in April and May after rain. A minimax can go almost anywhere a canoe can go, just lift it over the really narrow slots. The Hudson gorge and lower moose in New York are definite must do rivers. In the summer when nothing else is running come down to Monroe Massachusetts for the Dryway section of the Deerfield. Monroe boarders the southern Vermont town of readsboro.

You may see my oar rig in the northeast. But 75% of the time I run as a paddle boat, because it keeps the wife and friends more entertained. Also many of the put-in spots require a carry or drag down a steep slope. Maybe a portage on some runs. And most have a carry up hill at the take out. So going light and frames less has advantages.
