I know.... but I've made most of the more common screw ups can furnish pics of boats and references .. Buzzards and others.

Hi Kathy,
If you and your husband are still screening people for your GC trip, I wish to be considered. I am available for both trips. I'm in Grants Pass. Have done a number of overnight trips including GC, San Juan, Rogue, Green.
Last GC trip was in 2007. I can provide more info via email.

Kathy, chill. It turns out to be surprisingly hard to find good candidates for a GC trip. But you got lotsa time. Hang tough on no dope, I have and I really don't see the knockouts as a problem. If they aren't smart enough to understand the risks and appreciate the environment without getting stoned you will not want to be around them for +18 days.

Head over to and register. Focus more on the number of rafts than on the people count. Lots of people without boats will be glad to use your time, money, and equipment for their GC experience. You don't need 'em. Trust me, look hard enough and you will find good candidates, especially enough for a small trip. Just know that a great many permits get canceled, and a great many trips don't fill up on people, so stay on it. Also, that a whole lot of people that have no clue about rafting manage to get permits, so check everything you hear and read.

The best advice I have received is from this site, and it's 'don't church this up'. It's a raft trip, a little longer than normal, and with bigger water than most of us usually row. If you've done other permitted rivers, you are way ahead of the pack.

Hi Kathy, I sent you a PM introducing myself. My wife and I also live in Salem, OR. We have been rafting for 10 years + on family day trips and a few multidays on the Rogue.

We'd love to meet sometime and see about taking some joint trips.

Hi Kathy, everything you mention sounds good to me. I don't do drugs, and even though I can't claim to be a teetotaler, drinking is not a constant for me. On river trips I don't bring alcohol because I'm too weight conscious. Also nature is my form of escapism; so when the opportunity presents itself, I want to experience nature and marvel at its beauty with full awareness. Having said that, when sitting around a roaring campfire after a long hard day of rowing, if you bust out a bottle of your finest and offer, I shan't say NO.

Rafting for me has always been a family thing; dating back to my grandfather, who sadly no longer is with us. He got us all started. We have mainly always focused on getting a permit for the Middle Fork of Salmon. Permits are hard to come by and thus the runs have been few and far between. I have run the river 4 times and the Main Salmon 1. So last year I started acquiring launch dates outside of the lottery season. I organized a trip in September (very boney) and now I have a launch date for May 13 (high water/ cold nights). Due to schedule constraints only two out of my family pool have signed up; thus I need to find new river friends. You and your husband may be the perfect candidates.

I would be very interested in joining you on your 2017 GC float. I have had to cancel a permit in the past because none of my family were able to commit to 16+ days. I have a 16' NRS cataraft with an expedition frame that holds two dry boxes and a cooler with room to spare. Sadly I can't convince my wife to defecate in a bucket for that period of time. I have lost my partner in crime to the luxuries of modern life. Our three dogs are now to old to go on the river, but I sure would enjoy the company of your four legged friend.

In case you're wondering, I'm a healthy 39. Hope to hear from you guys.
