New guy questions - multi-day raft trips?

Please be easy on me, as I am new to rafting. My GF and I have just recently purchased a 14' raft, and gear to set ourselves up for multi day floats. I'm mostly floating Montana rivers, but as I gain experience I'd like to venture out through out the west. My question is, where can I find good detailed river maps online? I travel a lot for work, and like to research my next river trip(s) while out on the road. The trips we have done, we've just stopped at local fly shops and bought plastic maps then "winged" it as where to camp, put in, get out, etc. It seems like river maps and info online is a tightly guarded secret, with a lot of dead ends.
Thank you in advance for any info.

I second the Rivermaps guide books.

This website has proven useful for me as an overview:

Really too bad that remark can be necessary.
In any case:

American Whitewater - National Whitewater Inventory
(not the detailed maps like RiverMaps, but info online; getting both, hmmm?)
