Need rafters for the Grand Canyon in Dec

My name is Kyle, and I figured there was no better way to introduce myself here then posting a trip on the Grand Canyon. Our trip leader asked me to post this wherever I could that might get us a couple rafters to row gear rafts.

The trip leader's name is John, and anyone interested should contact him. I copied a pst he did somewhere else and posted it below.

Solstice in the Grand!
I am looking for other Grand Canyon enthusiasts to fill out a winter trip. My permit is for a 14 Dec 2009 launch. Planning to take out at
Diamond on Dec 31 (some flexibility on date/location). I have
some group gear, but would prefer to kayak with raft support. This
will be my 5th GC trip.

I am looking for other friendly folks who love the canyon.
Experienced boaters preferred, especially skilled rowers.
Will consider self-supported kayak trip as last resort.
I do not drink, but do not mind if you do in moderation. No
illegal substances/activity, please.

Please send me a message soon if interested, including something
about your experience and expectations.

Most of my experience and expectations have to do with illegal substances/activity.

This sounds like going down the GC with my mom.

As mostly a rafter I feel so used by these posts. They just want us to carry the food, beer and poop. But will they call after the trip is over? Not likely.

Seriously - good luck. Seriously.

But I never go on a river trip without two hookers and an 8ball. And what are the sodamy laws in AZ these days?

Sodomy laws are favorable in AZ, and you would just have to claim the hookers are for rowing!

Don't know what to tell you about the blow!

That'll be awfully cold weather to be a barge bitch. Really, if someone wants to go in December, they could just get their own permit, winter permits are almost call-in (if not actually).

Jer - I didn't know your mom was a kayaker? That 'splains the snowboarding thing too. (Ha)Sheesh, no WONDER!
I am a river, babe - I've got plenty of time, I don't know where I'm going, I'm just following the lines..... - "We are water" by Shaye

December is going to be cold with short days. I've done a late october/early November trip, it was great, but you need to be prepared for it. Best item - muck boots (aka cement boots - not the mafia kind, more like rain boots, rubber boots). Makes loading and unloading so much nicer, as well as trips to the boat after you are already dry and don't want to get your feet wet and cold.

I had a friend go on a summer trip where they were only allowed 2 beers a day. That sounded like torture. Moderation could be okay - like 6-10 beers a day most days with only a few drunken nights along the way, instead of 15+ beers a day and drunkenness every night. But Laura is right, December and January permits are quite easy to get - so you can go on your own if this group doesn't sound like your deal.
