Moyie River Beta

I'm thinking of doing the Moyie River from Eastport to the Moyie Falls Dam next weekend. I'd like to make it an overnighter. I've never run it before.

I know about the hazards at Eileen Dam and Hole in the wall. Does anyone have any beta on the trip including good camp sites?

This is the first I've ever heard of it. If you do it. post about it. I'd be interested in the future. Hopefully others chime in that have done it.

Here's the American Whitewater link for the Moyie. I'm planning on starting further north, just below the Canadian border.

Moyie is a classic, but not widely run. The put in is roughly 6 miles from the Canada border. Usually run as a day trip. Been a few years since I've run it, so I'm not clear on what the good flows are. There are steep banks intermittently through out the stretch. But definitely some flatter bank access to camp at. Avoid the super belt rock around the dam it will rip your boat clean open with little effort. Biggest thing to keep an eye on around strainers and log jams. Stay tight and left at Beaver Island to avoid a log jam at the nose of the island.

Good luck, paddle smart and enjoy the beautiful area.
