I would say it all depends on the flow. You know how well he boats. Does he consistently do the must-make moves that happen on Class 4? While the danger on Marsh is trees I have IKed it at higher flow and had a great time before I started hard boating. There are several hole type features that need to be run hard, but are manageable. Do the IKers have drysuits? Have they swam out of some serious drops? The Upper MF at high water is no place to hone those skills - they should be firmly in place before hand.
The must make moves will happen around Murphs, Hells Half Mile, Velvet, Lake Creek and Pistol. Down below there are at least decent recovery zones on all the big drops.
Also with a one boat float if something happens will you be able to handle one passenger? Two?
It seems word is out and there are people launching Marsh regularly. The day I was there two other private groups launched. One guy with a large group of cats said he was coming back for this weekend coming up. I think you will find other groups there too that you may be able to run with.
