Main Salmon - Wasps

Can anyone speak to the wasp situation in the camps? Any other recent beta that would help?

On a related note:

These traps were recommended.

I do happen to have a bunch of these around the house.

Anyone find one work better than the other?

Got off a week ago. While wasps existed, there were not a lot of them and I don't think anyone in our party was affected.

Yellow jackets

Mean little suckers. Esp around the kitchen.

None of the traps worked on our trip including the chicken over the soapy bucket of water.

These make for entertaining times in camp, especially for the kids.

Trip 7/01-7/06

They were just starting to come out when I was up there last week (7/01-7/06) and they weren't bad at all, worst was 10 or so in one camp one evening buzzing around the food. They were slow and easy to extinguish. Cooler temps the last two days of our trip may have helped to keep the numbers down.

As far as traps go, I've had real good luck with these in my yard where we seem to have hundreds of paper wasps every summer. While a paper wasp is not a yellow jacket, I assume the trap will work as well.

We launched July 4th and they were not bad at the camps. One heads up is the scout of Chittam rapid, there are nests in the rocks and a couple of people in our group ended up getting swarmed.

Yellow Jackets! We had a person who was allergic and had to have an emergency evacuation. The jet boats helped us out. What we learned is have more than 1 epipen they only last 15-20 minutes get benadryl in immediately double up the dose. We luckily had several epipens in our group. Traps help some and the bait does not work on paper wasps. We had fun with the electric swatters the yellow jackets do recover after a while so be sure to stomp them.
