I don't think they are as bad as they could bee. Trapping is a waste of time. If they are at the camp your at, there is no way you will catch enough to stop them in the short time your there. If the wind is blowing right then they will hunker down. Maybe it will rain a bit more a kill a few.

I highly recommend the electrified bug swatter racquets. We were able to control them in our camps with those VERY well. I agree - traps didn't really work.

We did leave our orgo bucket open away from our kitchen and that helped keep them attracted to it - it didn't kill them but they were more interested in that than stinging people.

Yellow Jackets

Generally they are not too bad this year. Had bad biting flies at Boise Bar, Mile 50, but found a bunch of dumped garbage in the willows at the back of the bar. If possible, use smaller, more obscure, camps.

They were probably worst at Corn Creek the night before launch.

Just got off the river Saturday. The yellow jackets were nowhere near as bad as they were the past 3 years.

Good to know.. We had problems with the wasps/yellowjackets last year at this time, but it was also right as the big fires started... Someone tried to tell me that they were more active because they were agitated with smoke/ fire...

Any other river beta we should know for this year? How's the driftwood/ firewood collecting situation? not planning on huge fires, but as long as no fire bans take place, we will be cooking with charcoal, and some small driftwood is handy to have. Any camps we should steer clear of?
