Lodore Bugs

Just got off the river yesterday, very buggy at the put in, Pot Creek was better, Limestone about the same as Pot Creek, Jones 1 was the best. I would expect that they will get worse as there is a lot of standing water now that the release is back to power plant levels. Island Park was very bad just passing through. I spoke to a group at the take out that stayed there and they said it was really bad.
Trips coming off the Yampa reported very buggy as well.

Bugs beta?

My 1st trip on Lodore...going with very experienced group. Taking my tween & 14 year old daughter. Concerned about the bugs. Launching August 1st. Any recent beta would be great about bugs. We have DEET. Where does one buy bug headnets? Do we wear them the whole time on the boat?

My guess is by August most bugs will be down significantly as it sounds like they are most related to high water in the willows earlier in the season down in the river itself. At the put in they are doing flood-irrigation not too far away and thus the bugs at the put in all season.

Anyone free to comment/add/edit.

Long sleeve shirts and pants really help in addition to DEET.
Cabela's or Bass Pro will have head nets. Not sure where in Eagle. Maybe one of the outfitters/fly shops could order you some.

Our other 2 trips were about your time (this year's trip was early season and really buggy) and the later season trips weref only buggy right at the put in. All else was relatively non-buggy.

Just got off and the bugs were only a problem at the put-in. We used nets that night and DEET for the remainder but didn't need much!
