I'm not sure I see what the deal is that some folks are complaining about and taking potshots at this offer for. Sounds like Alan's offering a spot on a typical shared cost trip where they've got everything lined up, had someone drop out due to health reasons, and now they just need someone who knows how to row take one of the rafts down. Seems like if they did anything along the lines of what Ironman and Randaddy are suggesting (compensate a participant for their skills), the group could be interpreted as "hiring a guide" which is pretty clearly against the law.
For the right person who can make it happen, this sounds to me like a nice chance to show up in Flagstaff with just a drybag and jump on a prime season trip.
Alan - thanks for tossing out this opportunity to the Buzz and don't let the naysayers get you down. Also, check out the Grand Canyon Private Boater's Assoc (GCPBA) email list and River Runners for Wilderness (RRFW) as well. There may be someone able to jump on it on either of those groups.
Have a great trip and good luck finding a rower!
