Input on 2017 Trip Options

Folks,

Looking to take five or six buddies down the river next summer. Some of them have minimal experience on the river, others have quite a bit. All hit the outdoors hard whether that comes in the form of mountain climbing, camping, backpacking, etc...

My goal is to get them some experience behind the oars so in the next few years we can start taking our lil kiddo's and extend the fun past 40.

I am looking at Main Fork Salmon, Snake / Hell's Canyon, Lower Salmon, the Rogue and the Deschutes. I have done the last three but know little of the first two. Trying to rate each river on quality for the following: campsites, scenery, whitewater, general badassness (new word!).

Will be putting in for permits last two weeks of July through first two weeks of August --- actual dates still TBD.

Snake / Hell's Canyon seems like a moderately bad idea as there are numerous Class IV's at beginning of trip and newbies will still be wet behind ears. Are these meaty Class IV's with serious consequences???

Would love to hear any / all input! Thanks in advance!!!!

I'd suggest some class two action such as the Grand Ronde or the North Fork John Day or similar.
