We were off the river on 15th. It wasn't so great. Nothing we could have done about it. The actual rafting was the easy part. About once a day I'd lose focus and end up stuck on a rock. Not really bad. My wife launched off the back at Pistol Creek.
I thought the fishing was really pretty poor too. I had to work fairly had to catch a 12 inch fish.
The smoke from the fires would blow in about 3PM and remain through the night. A fair dusting of ash on the tents in the AM.
Also the wack job from San Diego made his getaway nearby so there were all these troopers around for the first few days of our trip. Helicopters overhead and check points on the river. Not real nice.
I had a bad head cold when we started the trip and I got two others sick. In fact my wife ended up with pneumonia. Then a couple of us had GI trouble and it seems that it's getting bad. The state of Idaho sent a survey about it and has the following advice.
So we bailed a day early. We saw lots of wildlife and it's a beautiful place but pretty rough on us in total.
