Gunnison Gorge

Is there a way to float/fish the Gunnison Gorge on a private basis?

yeah you just have to pack light and hike it down or line up the mules but you have to reserve I think 4 if they don't already have a train going $100+ a mule and they can carry 180 pounds. Its worth every painful minute! Never paid for a mule the older I get the better it sounds.

Pool and a pond... Pond be good for you.

for the mules/horses:

J & Ray Guides & Outfitters
Larry Franks
8310 6400 Road
Montrose, CO 81401
(970) 323-0115

he has an email addy but it's pretty useless. calling in the evening is best if you want something other than voicemail. probably another month before he starts anything up due to the road. 5 horse minimum, at least it was for us a few years back now in the early season.

Private float options for gunnison gorge private

For the private trip you can do the hike it down yourself, which I have done several times, and sucks, but worth it. There is now a boat rental company that does it all for you. I have done 4 trips with the company and is WAY worth the price. It is 400.00 per boat per day which if you are fishing with 3 per boat split 3 ways is 133.00 per day or 400 per person for a 3 day trip. This includes all the gear (minus sleeping bags and beer), horses, food, and shuttle.
I have been running that stretch for 12 years, and this is the way to go if you can. No hauling your stuff over the hill, packing, de-rigging, no groover dump, no food pack, and no shuttle fee. plus the guy running it has been a guide down there for 23 years, and can line you out where to go and camp. The boats Have fishing seats in them as well and a full kitchen with propain. Good food.
The company is Gunnison River Pro, or Contact Chris Mortimer at 970-318-2509.
Hope this helps! It is an awesome place to go!
