A weighted lottery would mean at first you'd be 1 in 500? and then in 10 years you'd be 1 in 200? But 10 years ago I was 1 in 150 and now I'm 1 in 300. So in reality a weighted lottery would really only lock in something similar to the current odds of the first application. Even if the FS trippled the number of launches the reality of drawing a permit in your life time in a weighted system will be low at best. I think that Idaho permits should be once in a life time just like hunting moose. That includes off season.
Amen on not sharing everything here. While the tone of this post has been pretty benign, to the extent there are key dates or tricks (not saying there are or aren't ), why would anyone publicize them? We are all competing for the same permits and I'm not about to tell someone of key dates/tricks when they are too lazy to do the research on their own. Not criticizing the OP as they didn't ask for this, but I have seen people from time to time practically post a how to manual on getting permits. If you want that much information, invest the time to research it on your own. The odds are bad enough without making them worse by improving odds for those too lazy to figure out the process.

Unless we were part of an experienced group, where someone knew the ins and outs of snagging a permit, probably most of us can recall that first time of being in the the position of applying for a permit.
Reserve American now has a head line on their site stating, "Sign-in before 8:00AM PST for your best on-sale experience (10 minutes before is fine) On-sale FAQs"; the secrets and/or tips and tricks will eventually make the rounds. Asking for advice, the choice is there to share or not.

How quickly do cancelled permits usually hit the site? I know the site says within 24 hours. Anybody have any experience with this they would be willing to share?

My understanding is that they are randomly dispersed. I have seen permits pop up any time of day.

The ones during the day are snatched up quickly. I was surprised to see a Labor Day Weekend cancelation so early. It was up for over an hour last night before I went to bed.

Is there typically good water at labor day? More familiar historical flows of Green River and Arkansas so surprised water would be any good in Sept.
