Shiiiiiit. 7 years is a warm up. I have been putting in for the yampa 18 years and not one permit. When I get one i'm running from steamboat through cat.
I have been putting in for a lot of rivers for a lot of years and have drawn two middle fork permits ever. No salt, no selway, no yampa, no main, no grand, no rogue, blah blah. Got to be hundreds of applications over the years and 2 permits.
This rec.gov cancellation thing, in typical government fashion, punishes those who actually work. The fact that we cant sit on our asses and refresh our little screens every five seconds puts us at a significant disadvantage.
There might be a job opportunity here. Somebody that is unemployed or somebody that doesn't do shit at "work" needs to start a cancellation business. They get a list of rec.gov accounts and what permits and dates they want, then they land cancellations for a fee. High demand cancellations are worth more. You land a july forth middlefork for a guy, $100. June 25 selway, $150. Or, you get a list of what guys are willing to pay for what, then you prioritize accordingly. In a year when I could actually run trips I'd definitely pay to have someone land me a permit that I can't commit 12 hours a day trying to get.
