I just use a clove hitch on a biner on my sand stake when appropriate. That being said, having some rock pro has been helpful in some situations....I just retire a few of my old cams to river use. There are some very big beaches in the ditch so having the ability to tie off to a sand stake is very advantageous and can save A LOT of rope. I run 75' of 3/8" polypro floating line at both the bow and stern.
Oh...and the biner is a spring locker NOT a twist gate because of the issue with sand.
