Family overnighter

I am looking for suggestions for a family (class 2 to 3-) overnight for early August in the the Colorado/Utah area. We've done the upper C (including Pumphouse, and flows down to 1000 cfs) and some Ark with the kids and would like to branch out to a longer overnight. We have about 4 days to burn (3 river nights max). I'm eyeballing Ruby Horsethief (yes, permits), Green River ABC (yes, reserved campsites), not sure if we could do San Juan in that time range? Anything I am missing?

Recommendations? Beta on bugs or "W" on any of those runs at this time of year?

Related: is there a decent maps book for green ABC?

We have a 16' cat and the kids are 4 and 7. We are probably up for a max of 10 river miles a day, assuming some "W" is involved. We would probably have at least one other boat with us.

Sand Island to mexican Hat is doable in that time frame if feeling like running the Juan. Dewey to take out beach on Colorado, Labyrinth on the green ( not really rapids). Upper sections of Colorado and green will be way less hot though.

I would do Ruby with a stop at Rifle falls for the afternoon. Your kids will love it. Take a fly rod. Tour the fish hatchery also.

Time is like a river. You cannot touch the water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. Enjoy every moment of life on or off the river. is offline   Reply With Quote

Ruby and Rifle is an idea- my brother used to work at that hatchery and his kids grew up living there, imagine that childhood!

Mattman, I hadn't looked at dewey down, thank you for all the info.
