Here you go. I made mine with fresh peaches off my tree, but you can go without fruit. I'd go with 8 eggs instead of 12 because this baby puffed up a lot and raised the lid on the DO.
Baked French Toast
1 loaf french bread, torn into large pieces
8-12 eggs or boxed eggs (
2 cups half & half
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, dash of salt
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
Melt butter in 12 inch DO, then sprinkle with the brown sugar. Add peaches.
Mix together the eggs, half & half, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Soak the bread pieces and let sit for awhile, then put them into the DO on top of the peaches. Pour the remaining egg mixture over top. Bake @ 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until set and puffy. Serve with syrup if desired.
Cut back & leave room on top - this blew the top off the DO the first time !!!!!!
