DO French Toast

Anyone care to share with me a recipe for DO french toast "casserole" or variations thereof they have enjoyed?

Here you go. I made mine with fresh peaches off my tree, but you can go without fruit. I'd go with 8 eggs instead of 12 because this baby puffed up a lot and raised the lid on the DO.

Baked French Toast

1 loaf french bread, torn into large pieces
8-12 eggs or boxed eggs (
2 cups half & half
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, dash of salt
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar

Melt butter in 12 inch DO, then sprinkle with the brown sugar. Add peaches.
Mix together the eggs, half & half, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Soak the bread pieces and let sit for awhile, then put them into the DO on top of the peaches. Pour the remaining egg mixture over top. Bake @ 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until set and puffy. Serve with syrup if desired.
Cut back & leave room on top - this blew the top off the DO the first time !!!!!!

Praline French Toast

Praline French Toast
1 loaf French bread
8 large eggs
2 cups whipping cream
1 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Praline Topping
2 sticks butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
2 cups chopped pecans

Slice French bread into 20 1-inch slices. In a bowl or a 2-gallon plastic ziptop bag, mix the eggs, whipping cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Make sure it is well blended. Add bread slices and soak overnight in the refrigerator or cooler. (If you don't have a 2 gallon bag, divide the mixture into two 1-gallon bags).

In the morning, melt the butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, cinnamon and nutmeg in the bottom of a 14-inch oven. Be careful not to scorch.

When melted, add chopped pecans and toss to coat. Disperse evenly over the bottom of the oven and top with French bread slices. Pour any remaining egg mixture over bread. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with warm syrup.

Or similar to what Cataraftgirl does, look up recipes for bread pudding. There are all kinds of ways you can change or add things. Sweet or savory.
