Just curious peoples experience in a Paddleboat on Cat. I did it a number of times in the mid 90's as a guide, never over 20K and didn't ever have any mishaps. I have two recent trips (oar boat last year at 44K and a paddleboat in 2011 at 13K). I rowed it at 30K a few times when I was a guide, but that was 20 years ago....
We have a permit this weekend and are debating 2 oar boats or an Oar and Paddleboat. Any insight would be appreciated...
Definitely depends on the water level. We've had dead stop current with still 30 miles to go. However, we did it in August and there was swift current all the way to the end. Since the water level is near an all time low, I'm thinking this year will be no different.
Quick update: Went down with a 14 foot paddle boat.
7 was big and stood our boat up a couple times as we went right into the meat of it!
Button hole was out in all its glory but easy to miss left.
Bd1 - uneventful
Bd2 tail waves were big and we got surfed for a few seconds. Much easier to make the pull to avoid the ledge wave (as compared to higher flows).
BD3 - big waves and holes, filled the paddleboat with water.
Everything else was fun but nothing to worry about at this level.
