I know the OP isn't runing Cat at high water but for those planning a high water Cat trip, there's this.

Nothing in the world is more yielding and gentle than water. Yet it has no equal for conquering the resistant and tough. The flexible can overcome the unbending; the soft can overcome the hard. - Lao Tse

Have run Cat a number of times up to 20k. We have always scouted BD2 on the left side and BD3 on the right side. Though we might have scouted 3 on the left many years ago on a very low water trip.

Ran it once at 79k with Navtek driving a sport boat -- my BD2 scout was standing in the bow looking at the big wave and praying for a good outcome.

Trying to hijack...
Does Dark Canyon have a beach again or is it still a gnarly mud pit??
Camp across the canyon at the mud-flat beach thing?
Anyone know???

The camp is still shit. The mud factor depends on if the water has recently dropped or there have been rains. Always some degree of mud. It should be a decent camp again......not in your lifetime.

Just got off Cat two days ago... we read and ran everything but BD 2&3. Brown Betty Camp is awesome. We camped at rockfall mouth which was about the only decent river level camp after the rapids end. I concur with the other comments about juicy rapids below the BDs. Ask any other questions you have as it's still fresh on the mind...

Waterhole Canyon was a great camp at 6-7kcfs, slight uphill to a big flat sandy beach camp. After that the camps really suck.
