Can I get away with...

14 ft paddle boats with four guys each?

Planning a BP for a buddy on the Lower Deschutes. Two of us will be in gear boats and there are 8 more. I want to run two 14 foot paddle boats with the middle running a beverage cooler.

Most of the guys have paddled a stretch of the river booze cruise style and at least half have paddled in a bit more extreme water.

Is a 14 foot boat too much for four guys? Place I rent from has 12's but not 13's --- thought?

I just ran it in May, and I think you should be fine. All of the rapids are straight forward, no major moves to make the whole way. The right side of Washout is gnarly, the left side is a wave train. I'd rather be in a 14 than a 12 with 4 guys, they move just fine.

Wishing I was on the river instead of surfing the web...

I have paddled a 14.5' Sotar on the middle Rogue (Hog Cr - Grave Cr) with 4 people. I realize that isn't as difficult of water but you still have to make a few little moves.

4 was just ok with 1 being kind of a lazy weak paddler. We had no gear in the boat other than a cooler and the biggest guy was me at 175lbs. If any of the guys are real big it might make the difference.
