The asterisk denotes a culturally sensitive site. At White Creek the restriction is on camping or using the bench above the upstream end of the camp, if I recall.
When you sign up for camps, if you've selected any sites with cultural sensitivities, they show you a map of the camp with the restricted areas and make you sign it, I believe.
White Creek used to have a HUGE ponderosa on the beach, that fell over about two years ago. Woulda smashed 5 out of 6 of us guides on the previous trip if it had fallen a few days earlier. That made the camp considerably less appealing at the time, but maybe it's a little more opened up by now??
