They grow up so fast

Here she is on the Colorado the other day, kicked me out of the driver's seat and is having a blast! 5 years old. So glad I bought the mini max to start teaching her on so it will be more manageable, this is my 14' nrs.
She'll be solo before long and I can fish!! Or just sit back and admire
The little voice in the background is her younger sister, also eager to row!

Thanks for sharing, mate. I have only taught friend's kids at this point but a handful are turning into river rats. I can only hope our future child loves the river and outdoors as much as we do.

(My old roomate and adventure buddy just did a week long backpack and packraft trip with their <1 yr old on the San Juan this spring. The kid evidently seems to love his backcountry adventures already. Not sure we will go that far but admire the commitment.)

Add a 2 pound counter weight to the oars and the Max is the perfect boat for kids to learn on.

My "honorary" grandkid started running rivers at age 4. She's about to turn 16 soon. In May we handed the reins of the 15 foot raft over to her on a Southfork Snake weekend. She rigged, loaded, and rowed solo for the first time. She's rowed her mom's cat in some class III rapids on the Main Salmon the last two summers. We might let her solo on parts of the Main Salmon in a 14 foot cat this summer.

It's great to see another river kid taking the oars. You'll treasure that video forever.

My son rowed about 3 miles of an easy class II trip about a month ago. I have heavy un counterbalanced oars, and he put up with it just fine. He did all of the rapids, and landed us right on the cross current ramp. Proud Dad moment.
