Raft Question - Footcups
I have seen some photos recently that show the use of what appear to be "foot straps" on rafts instead of footcups. These straps look like a standard NRS footcup with the front 1/2 to 2/3 of the cup cut off, with just a strap left behind. I have a small raft that I need to install footcups or foot straps on, and I think the footcups are too big to fit in the floor space available so I was considering cutting off the front portion of the cups. Anyone have experience with these modified footcups or straps? I think there might be some added risk of entrapment in the strap, as you could slide your foot completely through the strap and get caught around your ankle if there were some chaos associated with a flip or dump truck move.
I was also thinking about cutting off the back 1/3 of the NRS footcups, and installing only the front part of the cup. This would decrease the size and may give less of a "hold" on your foot, but would eliminate the entrapment potential and still help with the limited floor space I have available. Any other ideas for a smaller footcup choice?
Finally, when I do install the cups or straps on the floor of my raft, should the floor be fully inflated to account for the small ridges in the SB floor? Can you get contact between the two surfaces, and use a roller on the inflated floor chamber?
Thanks in advance.
