The tharts are nearly always removed to carry extra cargo and to keep the load low in the boat where it belongs. Then there's the issue of how to keep the tubes apart. You can use dry boxes to fit exactly- OR- if you have a lace in floor, you can run a strap around the outside of the frame past the inside of the tube and through the lacing. Once tightened, this naturally pulls the tube away from the center and more in line up with the frame. I do this on my 16' when I deflate the thwarts to add gear room.
