Dear free-flowing river lovers,

Please take a moment to SIGN A PETITION opposing the dams planned for Rio Marañon, the Upper Amazon River in the Andes. It flows through a Grand Canyon equivalent and has no dams on it. I did the 400+ mile trip last year and will do as much as possible to save this beautiful river. I'm sure you would too if you knew how special it is.
You can sign the petition at the link below (also find more info, photos, and watch a 20 min film):

Please post comments. I'd love to hear them.

Easy to organize a trip

If anyone is going to choose to do one good long class IV river in Latin America, you can't beat Río Marañon. It's the best, and similar to the Grand Canyon of the Colorado. I'm trying to make it easy for others to experience it - you can rent kayaks and do a self support trip for real cheap - or get similar outfitting services with rafts/kayaks/shuttle/food like what's available for a Grand Canyon trip. Get a group together and go do it!

But really, the most important thing is to stop the dams so everyone can experience the river in the future.

I just read about this in American Whitewater. It looks like an awesome river and a great trip. Maybe one day I'll get a chance to do it, if it's still there.
